Hairdresser arrested in kidnapping of two teen girls

April 21, 2018 – Toronto police announced charges of Sexual Assault, Attempted Sexual Assault, Sexual Assault with a weapon, making threats to kill, Sexual Assault with a weapon, Giving prohibited weapons (firearms) to a convicted sex offender, Kicking or punching a witness, Assault with a weapon, robbery, Acquaintance sexual assault with an object.

“It is unfortunate that allegations such as these can cause so much fear and heartache to all those involved,” said Detective Sergeant Mike Crosbie of the Child Abuse Unit. “Police encourage anyone with information to come forward. We hope these charges assist us in determining a motive. The investigation is ongoing and we are working closely with investigators from other agencies.”

Brian J. Brown is also charged with two counts of Sexual Assault, attempted sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon, giving prohibited weapons (firearms) to a convicted sex offender, Kicking or punching a witness, Assault with a weapon, Acquaintance sexual assault with an object.

Brown worked at the Dye Bar prior to a stint at the Men’s Hair Design.

Brown is known to police, having been arrested for a previous theft-from-a-minor charge and several charges stemming from a 2017 robbery case, one of the sexual assault offences happened against one of the victims in that case.

Police have not provided any further information as to why Brown was with the girls.

Police are investigating to determine the circumstances surrounding the April 15 kidnapping.

“Our investigation is at an early stage,” Det. Sgt. Crosbie said. “Mr. Brown will be attending court to answer to his charges on Friday, May 4.”

Brown is being held at a safe house for now.
